Genealogy

FNSB Public Libraries offer a variety of resources to support genealogy research.  A few of our online resources are highlighted below.  To see the entire list of related resources, visit the full A-Z Databases page and select Genealogy as the subject.

Ancestry Library includes censuses, vital records, immigration records, family histories, military records, court and legal documents, directories, photos, maps, and more. Library Edition does not allow users to create family trees and personal accounts.  For those functions, users must have personal paid subscriptions to Ancestry.com.

Note:  Access to Ancestry Library Edition is in-library only.

Use the Alaska Newspaper Archive to research Alaska history, find obituaries, complete genealogical research.  Access full-text for 59 Alaskan Newspapers between the years 1893-2022.   In addition to full text for these Alaska newspapers, find citations for articles in thousands of national and international newspapers.  Of note:  Alaska Newspaper Archive holdings during the 1940's for the Fairbanks Daily News Miner cover only 1940-1942.  The Noel Wien Library has the microfilm for the missing years (1943-1949)  in our collection.
