Economic Development Commission
Duties and Responsibilities
- Serve as an Alaska regional development organization as defined by AS 44.33; serve as any other state and/or federally recognized development organization that may be approved by the Assembly; and comply with all state and federal laws applying to any such organizations;
- Maintain an economic information and research capability useful to both public and private sectors in dealing with local and regional economic issues and opportunities by working through the Borough administration with the Department of Community Planning, the University of Alaska Fairbanks, and other public and private entities.
- Seek appropriate funding sources for economic development activities and the development of any infrastructure necessary to support such activities;
- Coordinate public and private resources to support economic growth and development and actively encourage public input and participation in specific development projects as they are proposed;
- Act as a resource and catalyst for the exchange of local economic information between and amongst local businesses and municipal, state, and federal governments;
- Serve as a referral source to any business or industrial interest that inquires about establishing or relocating a business or industry in the Borough.
- Review, analyze, and report to the Assembly on local economic development and taxation and engage in any additional economic development activity that is consistent with FNSBC 4.40.010.
Meetings are scheduled on the fourth Tuesday each month or at the call of the chair. This information will be routinely updated to reflect upcoming meetings.
The next Economic Development Commission meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, August 22, 2023 at 2:30 p.m. in the Mona Lisa Drexler Assembly Chambers, Juanita Helms Administration Center, 907 Terminal Street, Fairbanks, AK.

How to Provide Testimony
In-Person or Telephonic Testimony
Once an agenda is published, citizens may sign up to testify in person or telephonically by doing one of the following:
- Calling the Clerk's Office at 907-459-1401 no later than 4:30 p.m. on the day of the meeting;
- Completing the online sign-up form no later than 4:30 p.m. on the day of the meeting; or
- Signing up in person before the meeting has been called to order.
During the meeting, the Chair will invite citizens to the table or ask the Clerk to call citizens when it is their turn to speak. Please note the following:
- Phone calls to citizens will come from an out-of-state number.
- If a phone call is not answered, the Chair will move to the next citizen who has signed up.
- Testimony will be heard in the order in which citizens have signed up.
- Each citizen will have three minutes to provide testimony.
- Other citizens attending in person may provide comments after those who have signed up.
